Introduction to Jewellery Making: Make a Pair of Silver Earrings

Course Description

This one-day beginners course will introduce key jewellery / metalworking skills through the process of designing and making your own silver earrings. Learn how to saw shapes from silver sheet, to refine shapes and to connect multiple elements � all materials are included in the course fee.

Course Requirements

All abilities are welcome - this is an introductory course. If you are interested in a specialist technique not listed or described in the course description, please contact the Curriculum manager before enrolling, to find out if it is possible for us to accommodate this.

Course Content

This is a one day beginners course designed to get you started working with metal to create your own jewellery designs. All materials needed are included in the course fee.Make a pair of silver earrings to your own design, experimenting with cutting and shaping metal, creating your own earring hooks, joining metal elements together and refining and polishing your completed earrings.Learn key basic skills that you can choose to continue to develop through further study / practice after this course. The course will cover planning out and creating your own earrings with one or more connected elements.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The programme is taught through tutor demonstration, group discussions, sharing skills and knowledge within the group and most importantly through developing your own practice. We share skills and ideas in a friendly, safe and supportive atmosphere. This class is tailored to your individual needs. Samples of finished work and technical processes will be demonstrated. Through discussion and technical advice you will be supported to develop your ideas prior to embarking in your work. Resources used within each lesson are available electronically. No homework is required. Information and further online resources will be recommended, along with further study options offered by the WMC for students who wish to continue to develop their jewellery making after this day.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.
